Ascend Amphitheater runs a seasonal outdoor schedule by the Cumberland River. An evening there is relaxed and scenic, but outdoor shows reward a little preparation. Use this checklist before any Ascend show.

Seats or lawn

Reserved seats are under the curved roof, closer to the stage and protected from light rain. The lawn is general admission, open to the sky and more casual. Lawn views depend on how early you arrive and where you sit. Read your ticket type carefully when buying, especially on resale pages.

Check the weather twice

Look at the forecast the day before and again before you leave. Shows are often rain or shine, but lightning near the venue can pause a show. Our seasons and weather guide explains how heat and storms affect outdoor nights in Nashville.

Read the current policy

Outdoor venues set rules for bags, chairs, blankets, umbrellas and water bottles. Rules can change between seasons and between tours, so check the event page each time rather than relying on a friend's memory of last year.

Plan the walk

From Broadway and Fifth, walk east to the river and south along First Avenue, or through SoBro. Either way, it takes only a short time. After the show, the crowd spreads in several directions, which helps exits move faster than at an arena.

Sunset timing

Early-evening shows often coincide with sunset over the city. Arriving in time to find a spot on the lawn and watch the light change on the skyline is one of the pleasures of the venue.

The checklist

  • Ticket loaded and phone charged.
  • Bag and lawn items that meet the current rules.
  • Poncho or light rain layer; sunscreen for early shows.
  • A plan to drink water during warm months.
  • A meeting point near the park entrance for your group.
